The chapter provides programming to encourage the professional growth and career development of its members. These programs include the Corporate Mixer and Career Fair – which provides companies an opportunity to connect with diverse and experienced STEM professionals for potential placement in open job positions. The chapter also has the Professional Development Meeting Series. These meetings occur monthly and provide organizations an opportunity to introduce themselves to members. The chapter also plans to provide grants to active members to attend NSBE conferences (Annual Convention, Professional Development Conference, Fall Regional Conference, Regional Leadership Conference).
Skill Series Meetings
Our Skill Series meetings will allow companies and other organizations to come engage the chapter membership and develop relationships for potential recruitment. Companies will be able to present on their company and conduct workshops to provide professional development to our membership on topics such as leadership, networking and resume writing.
Corporate Mixer
The Corporate Mixer averages around 100 attendees annually and provides companies with access to the best and brightest NSBE DC Professionals for networking and recruitment purposes. Attendees will have the chance to learn about employment opportunities and participate in on-site interviews with companies of interest.
Mentor Speed Networking
The event kicks off the Professional Development Mentoring Program and will provide opportunities for younger members of the chapter to connect with more experienced members and professionals through a speed-networking format. From the event initial mentor-mentee relationships will be formed.
Mid-Year Mentor Mixer
The Mixer will be an opportunity for the Professional Development mentor-mentee pairs to reconnect in person.
NSBE Conference Travel Support
The 45th Annual Convention will be taking place in Detroit, Michigan during the last week of March 2019. The chapter wants to increase the number of members attending the conference; it has historically sent 10-15 members. To encourage members from the chapter to attend, up to 10 grants worth $500 will be given to members to cover registration and partial airfare.
