Pre-College Initiative

The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program is designed to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields for students in K-12 by encouraging students to attend college and pursue technical degrees, providing exposure to real world applications of STEM principles, and mentorship with college students and professionals in the STEM fields. We also support the following NSBE Junior programs:

Events & Programs

PCI Summit

The PCI Summit is a conference where parents, educators, students, and other invested individuals can learn about programs and resources to help prepare youth (3rd- 12th grades) to succeed in school and ultimately in technical careers. The summit will feature a series of workshops, panelists, and an interactive expo of hands-on STEM related activities.

DC STEM Fair

The DC STEM Fair is held at the University of District of Columbia. The Fair brings over 150 children and 15 different programs from across the area to promote STEM in the community.

USA Science and Engineering Festival

The USA Science and Engineering Festival is held every two years at the Washington Convention Center. NSBE DC partners with other local professional chapters to provide STEM activities for kids and their parents visiting the festival. The chapter has participated in the event the last 5 times (’10, ’12, ’14, ’16 ‘18) providing activities and information about the chapter to over 1000 children and families per event.

#BlackGeniusDC Engineers Week Workshop

The Pre-College Initiative committee will be holding a joint outreach event in partnership with the National Black United Front during Engineers Week. College students and professionals will have the experience of interacting with the students the National Black United Front serves through their “N Joya Weusi” program event.

N’ Joya Weusi Afterschool Program

The N’Joya Weusi Afterschool Program is a weekly program in partnership with the National Black United Front which exposes students from Washington, DC on STEM subjects while educating them on key figures from the African continent.

NSBE Junior Chapter Support

Funds will be used to facilitate programming and provide supplies for the NSBE Junior chapters NSBE DC supports throughout the year.
