The key to the continued vitality of NSBE DC is its membership. Providing opportunities for our members to connect and give back is of utmost importance. Our membership spans from recent graduates to retired professionals, so the chapter provides opportunities and conducts events that connect them with each other and the broader community. Furthermore, members are encouraged to involve themselves in the community through service within NSBE DC and with other peer organizations in the area.
Annual Membership BBQ
The Membership BBQ marks the beginning of each programming year. This family friendly event also serves as a membership drive and celebration of NSBE DC’s rich history. Over 100 NSBE DC members, area NSBE members, family and friends gather at this event every year.
DC Trail Hikes
We have collaborated with groups like The Hike Crew and DC Hike Club, to organize scenic hikes along various trails in Washington, DC! Our explorations have taken us through Rock Creek Park and Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens.
DC Sports Game Outings
The chapter organizes group outings to professional sports games in Washington, DC as a way to build community and fellowship among members. Past events have included the Washington Wizards and DC Defenders, with upcoming plans to attend Washington Spirit and D.C. United soccer matches.
Black History Month Celebrations
Each February, the chapter honors Black History Month through events that celebrate Black culture, history, and excellence. Activities have included visits to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, happy hours at Black-owned businesses to support local entrepreneurs, and member spotlights on social media to highlight the achievements and stories within our community.
#2Hype Tuesday Happy Hours
Every second Tuesday of the month, NSBE DC members and supporters gather together for informal happy hours. The hashtag #2HypeTuesday is a communication initiative by the Region 2 NSBE Professionals board to highlight the great activities regional chapters are doing.
STEM Outreach and Volunteering
The chapter regularly volunteers at local STEM expos to inspire and support the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators. Members have participated in events like the University of Maryland’s K-12 STEM Expo, engaging students through hands-on activities and sharing insights about STEM education and careers.
Membership Appreciation Event
The Membership Appreciation Event is a celebration of the contributions of our members and is the chapter’s close out event. Outstanding members will be recognized for their contribution to the chapter.
