The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Program is designed to stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields for students in K-12 by encouraging students to attend college and pursue technical degrees, providing exposure to real world applications of STEM principles, and mentorship with college students and professionals in the STEM fields. We also support the following NSBE Junior programs:
The PCI Summit is a conference where parents, educators, students, and other invested individuals can learn about programs and resources to help prepare youth (3rd- 12th grades) to succeed in school and ultimately in technical careers. The summit will feature a series of workshops, panelists, and an interactive expo of hands-on STEM related activities.
DC STEM Fair
The DC STEM Fair is held at the University of District of Columbia. The Fair brings over 150 children and 15 different programs from across the area to promote STEM in the community.
USA Science and Engineering Festival
The USA Science and Engineering Festival is held every two years at the Washington Convention Center. NSBE DC partners with other local professional chapters to provide STEM activities for kids and their parents visiting the festival. The chapter has participated in the event the last 5 times (’10, ’12, ’14, ’16 ‘18) providing activities and information about the chapter to over 1000 children and families per event.
