Special Events Committee (
The NSBE DC Professionals Special Events Committee is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Annual NSBE DC Professionals Scholarship Banquet, held each spring. In corporation with other committees the Special Events Committee coordinates ticket sales, invitations, promotion, and financing of the banquet. The Annual NSBE DC Professionals Scholarship Banquet is hosted to recognize the recipients of the NSBE DC Professionals Scholarship Award, as well as members who have made significant contributions to NSBE DC Professionals through the course of the year.
The College Initiative Committee is responsible for forging and retaining a working relationship between NSBE DC Professionals and local Washington, DC Area NSBE Student Chapters. The College Initiative Committee coordinates and sponsors various activities geared towards academic development among college students. The College Initiative Committee interfaces with local NSBE Student Chapters to promote continued corporation in NSBE through NBSE DC. Likewise the College Initiative Committee coordinates with local NSBE Student Chapters to sponsor joint programs and events centered on academic excellence as well as cultural and technical awareness. In corporation with the PCI Committee the College Relations Committee sponsor activities and programs geared towards preparing and introducing Pre-College students to various aspects of college life.
The NSBE DC Professionals Finance Committee is responsible for the development of the chapter's financial strategy and ensuring chapter financial vitality through the fiscal year. The Finance Committee coordinates all chapter fund-raisers and provides assistance and oversight of committee fund-raisers. This committee is responsible for soliciting donations and corporate sponsorship for chapter events and programs.
The Membership Committee works to promote chapter membership as well as ensure member retention. The Membership Committee sponsors various activities geared towards recruiting new members and developing unity and comradeship among current members. Coordinating with other professional organizations the membership committee works to generate chapter exposure at events such as Career Fairs, Symposiums and Technical Conferences. In corporation with the College Relations Committee the membership committee reaches out to local NSBE Student Chapters with the objective of promoting continued participation in NSBE through NSBE DC.
The NSBE DC Professionals Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Committee sponsors various student-oriented activities/programs geared toward the promotion of academic excellence, leadership, as well as technical and cultural awareness. These activities/programs contribute to NSBE DC Professionals efforts to prepare African-American pre-college students for the challenges they will experience in their college and ultimately professional careers. Through the PCI Committee NSBE DC Professionals provides students with opportunities to network and interact with technical professionals as well as challenge them to strive to their full potential
The purpose of this committee is to coordinate the professional and career development among chapter members. The Professional Development Committee coordinates guest speakers, from various professions, to discuss topics related to technology, entrepreneurship, professional development, as well as personal business management. Likewise the committee sponsors various workshop and seminars with the objective of providing career and professional development strategies that will enhance member professional and career awareness.
The Publications Committee is responsible for the coordination, publication, and distribution of the NSBE DC Professionals Chapter Newsletter. The Publications Committee interfaces with other committees and members with the mission of providing the general body with news and in-depth insight into chapter activities and programs as well as highlighting the accomplishments and achievements of the chapter as well as individual members.
The Telecommunications Committee is responsible for development, maintenance and implementing updates to the NSBE DC Professionals Internet site, as well as management of the NSBE DC Professionals e-mail listserver. The Telecommunications Committee serves as NSBE DC Professionals link to the world-wide-web by ensuring all information pertaining to chapter programs and activities is made accessible to the viewing public, thus providing NSBE DC Professionals with greater exposure, locally, nationally, and internationally. The committee conducts continuous research to provide members with access to various on-line resources related to personal management as well as career and personal development. The Telecommunications Committee also supports and sponsors various initiatives geared towards promoting Technical Awareness among pre-college students and bridging the technical divide.
We strive to bridge the gap between Collegiate and Alumni membership through mentoring and professional development. The Chapter has established relationships with several DC Metropolitan colleges and universities, supporting collegiate NSBE chapters in their endeavors while providing students with mentoring, professional development, and exposure to several corporate partners.
Collegiate Mentoring Program
To further the overall mission of NSBE, NSBE DC Professionals is partnering with the Howard Collegiate chapter to re-establish a college mentoring program. The NSBE Professional: Collegiate Mentoring Program aims to connect current engineering students with NSBE DC Professionals to foster career development within our community. With these relationships, we offer the opportunity for students to learn valuable skills as they transition from the educational realm to the professional one. These skills can be explored through exploring topics like:
● Resume critiques
● The technical interview
● Corporate survival techniques
● Advice on achieving goals, i.e. time management
● How to increase one’s value in the workplace
● How to carry oneself in meetings
● Pitfalls to avoid in the workplace
● Moving up the corporate ladder
Primary Responsibilities of a Mentor:
● Take initiative and make first contact with your mentee
● Work together to set up goals and term of the relationship
● Minimum amount of contact should be Bi-Weekly
● Attend all major mentor mentee events, as possible
● Be willing to use you own professional experiences to guide mentee
● Be honest about time and the relationship. Express concern with the program leaders if there are any issues in the relationship

College Coffee and Conversations
NSBE DC sponsored event that brings corporate partners and local collegiate NSBE chapters together for networking, recruiting, and open and honest conversation. Representatives from several companies take part in informal one-on-one sessions with engineering students from across the DC metropolitan area.
NSBE DC collaborates with its partners to provide high school and middle school students with tours of institutions of higher learning.

College Initiative Speaker Series
NSBE DC provides collegiate NSBE chapters with accomplished professionals who give talks and workshops on their respective STEM related careers.
NSBE DC host a booth each year at this college fair that connects students and student athletes directly to colleges, including historically black colleges and universities. The event gives our chapter the opportunity to promote its Future Innovators Scholarship, introduce students and parents to the opportunities available for those majoring in STEM fields, and to inform them of the STEM related activities provided by NSBE DC and its community partners.

The easiest way to join is to complete the online membership form. Payments for local dues are processed securely by PayPal. National membership dues can also be paid online via the NSBE National website here: www.nsbe.org
The NSBE DC Chapter Membership Fee is only $90.00 (annually). This fee includes Local and National membership ($40 Local, $50 National). In order to complete your membership both National and Local dues need to be paid. Note: Local dues are discounted $15 for recent graduates while National dues are free!
We have rolled out a new membership level, "Network Membership", which is free. We will continue to have paid membership, "Professional Membership" at a cost of $40 for an entire calendar year.
